Premium Stone, Concrete, and Grout Water Based Sealer

HydraSeal Premium Stone, Concrete, and Grout Water Based Sealer preserves and protects the investment in fine floors and surfaces by providing advanced penetrating bonded protection at the molecular level. This bonded protection penetrates deep into porous surfaces and protects against water and oil based spills and stains, chemical degradation, biological growth, and efflorescence, while preserving the natural look of the surface, and not effecting slip resistance. HydraSeal works best on the most porous surfaces, but is effective on marble, granite, limestone, bluestone, Saltillo, travertine, sandstone, unfinished concrete, and grout lines. HydraSeal can be used as an interior or exterior treatment. It can be used on damp grout, even right after you clean. HydraSeal is vapor permeable so it lets water vapor out, but does not let liquid spills in! HydraSeal provides four times the level of sealing and protection of “home improvement center” sealers. HydraSeal is the ideal product when applying a clear sealer to grout since it can be sprayed or sponged onto grout lines and squeegeed or mopped off non-porous ceramic and porcelain tile, and stone;  decreasing the application time.

Pre-Treatment Procedures

Read entire label before using. Use only as directed. Always test in a small inconspicuous area with a 24-hour cure time to determine ease of application and desired results. . Test for suitability in an inconspicuous area, especially for polished marble and extremely porous surfaces.  Allow new grout installations to cure for a minimum of 72 hours prior to application. Make sure surface is clean and free of waxes and coatings. Sealer may be applied to damp surfaces one hour after standing water has been removed. Surface temperature should be between 50°F and 80°F. Ensure that the area is well-ventilated during application and until the surface is dry. Keep children and pets out of the area until foot traffic resumes.

Before applying sealer, surface must be clean

Before applying a sealer to the surface, it should be cleaned and rinsed, thoroughly. The dryer the grout, the better the sealer will penetrate the surface. You may even want to consider using an airmover to rapidly dry the surface before application of the sealer commences. For best results, the pH of the surface should be neutral. If alkaline residues remain from cleaning (unlikely if you used a rotary extraction hard surface cleaning wand), then the sealer may not bond properly to the surface. It is a good idea to test grout for efflorescence of the color of the grout is not white prior to sealer application.

Sealing procedures

1.    Reminder – for porcelain, grazed ceramic, and other non-porous man-made tiles, apply sealer to the grout lines only.

2.     HydraSeal Premium Stone, Concrete and Grout Sealer is ready to use and should be applied straight. Shake thoroughly before application. Coverage should be between 600 to 1200 sq. ft. per gallon depend­ing on the porosity of the surfaces and the coverage required (grout only or entire surface)

3.    Sealer may be applied to damp surfaces approximately one hour after water has been removed from cleaning procedures. They dryer the grout, the better the penetration.

4.    Apply sealer with grout line applicator. Squeegee excess onto grout and wipe up remainder off of non-porous tiles. If a white haze develops on tiles, buff off with white polishing pad and a 175 rpm rotary floor machine.

5.    For entire floor application (stone or concrete), spray on sealer then spread with a brush with synthetic fibers. A preferred application method is to liberally apply an even coat using a paint pad, roller or brush. Allow sealer to penetrate the sur­face for 15–30 minutes. During this time, distribute sealer over entire area to ensure even penetration. Remove excess sealer by wiping entire surface thoroughly with clean, dry towels. A sec­ond coat may be necessary after 1 hour. Place drop of sealer on newly sealed grout, concrete, or stone and see if it absorbs into grout, concrete, or stone. If it does absorb readily, then a second coat is necessary

Post Application Precautions

Floor is typically walkable after 3 to 4 hours, ready for use after 8 to 12 hours, and completely cured in 24 hours. These times will be less if only grout was sealed. After 6 to 18 months, reapplication may be necessary, depending upon the traffic and the type of surface sealed.
